This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector as a departmental or small business manager. The diversity of employers includes restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway.

Course Outcomes

Once you’ve completed your Diploma of Hospitality Management, you’ll be able to make a range of operational business decisions, independently coordinate hospitality operations and be responsible for the smooth functioning of a service team. It also provides a pathway to work in any sector of the hospitality industry as a departmental or small business manager. You could also work in the following positions:

Banquet or Function Manager

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible service of gambling (RSG) must be acquired external to and are not delivered by Foundation Education or AIPT and are required to work in any business providing Alcohol and/or Gaming services respectively.

Executive Housekeeper

Lead small and large teams of housekeepers within any hotel or accommodation setting.

Front Office Manager

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to prepare, deliver and review a presentation to a target audience. This unit applies to individuals who may be expected to make presentations for a range of purposes, such as marketing, training and promotions. They contribute well developed communication skills in presenting a range of concepts and ideas.

It applies to individuals working in managerial positions who have excellent organisational skills. The work ethic of individuals in this role has a significant impact on the work culture and patterns of behaviour of others as managers at this level are role models in their work environment.

There are no formal entry requirements to undertake this course; however, it is strongly recommended that students undertake lower-level qualifications, and/or gain industry experience prior to enrolling.
