Certificate III in Dental Assisting + Certificate IV in Dental Assisting – Radiography Specialisation
Become A Qualified Dental Assistant specialising in Radiography
According to Job Outlook, as published by the Australian Government, employment opportunities for Medical Imaging Professionals have risen strongly over the past years, and are likely to continue with rapid growth.* Make a strong start to your career as a Dental Assistant with this dual qualification, providing you with dental radiography knowledge and advanced-level dental assisting skills.
With these two nationally recognised qualifications, you will gain the skills and knowledge to complement a multi-disciplinary team in a dental practice. With the Certificate III in Dental Assisting and Certificate IV in Dental Assisting – Radiography Specialisation, you will be able to assist with administration processes in dental practice and effectively work alongside a team of dental professionals such as Dentists. You will work through particular units focussed on working with diverse people and communicating effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers. In addition, you will learn how to comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures, prepare for and assist with oral health care procedures and process reusable medical devices and equipment.
The radiography specialisation component of the course will teach you the skills to interpret a prescribed request for a dental radiographic image, prepare a patient for dental radiography, ensure all radiographs are of consistent diagnostic standard and minimise the risk of radiation to a patient, the operator and others during the exposure of a prescribed dental radiographic image. The specialisation units also extend to operating dental radiographic equipment and positioning a patient correctly to produce an intraoral and extraoral diagnostic radiographic image. Where work relates to extraoral radiography, this includes orthopantomogram and may include lateral cephalograms (for orthodontic radiographic work-ups) and excludes cone beam radiography.
You will be required to produce and show evidence of 30 simulated images before you can start practicing on members of the public (patients). Your Dental surgery may have access to models and manikins for you to work on for your simulation. If they do not have any manikins to work on or if you can’t get 30 friends, family or colleagues to practice on we can help. We have a Manikin (Manni) that we can send out to your practice for a short period of time. The Manikin would be able to be temporarily clamped to a chair or table for use.
Upon graduation, you will be qualified to work as a Dental Assistant, Treatment Coordinator, Dental Hygienist Assistant, Dental Sterilisation Nurse, Dental Receptionist or Dental Radiographer. You will also have the hands-on skills employers value, having completed 300 hours of work placement in a dental clinic of your choice as part of the course’s practical requirements.
All theory components are completed online, so you have the option to study whenever and wherever suits you through our online learning platform, My eCampus. Combined with access to a dedicated support team to help you from enrolment through to graduation, this course will give students the ability to expand on your job opportunities in the dental sector.
