Why You Should Consider Online Study
/ Blog
Whether you're fresh out of high school, wanting to upskill a bit or looking to immerse yourself in an online degree fully, there are many benefits of studying online.
If you're more of a face to face person and therefore not sure if distance learning is for you, here are some advantages you may not have thought of:
Online courses are cheaper
It's true. Online learning tuition fees are considerably less expensive than on-campus classes. Just do a quick online search, and you'll realise you can earn a whole degree as an online student at a fraction of the price!
You can generally study at your own pace
While this isn't always the case, most online classes are pre-recorded so you can watch in your own time. A lot of the time the course materials are mostly reading rather than lectures, so it's easy to get in some quick study when you have a spare moment. This does mean you need to be a whiz at time management though so if you're prone to dawdling, getting an online education may not work for you.
You can study in your pyjamas
Those ads you've seen of students lounging in their PJ's with their laptop are totally on the mark. Your learning environment can be in your own home! No commutes to campus through peak-hour traffic or on public transport. You can complete your higher education fully online, no joke!
You will receive more support
Your online learning experience won’t be a lonely road. You will have your own educator allocated to you who will be available to help you a lot more often than in a class environment. Often, they help you outside of normal business hours and are happy to chat with you via Skype, phone or email. You'll also have access to other students who you can interact with in forums. Most of the time, topics on the forums range from just talking about life to asking for help and advice about current assignments.
You can continue to work while you study
Traditional study generally means having to forgo earning money in favour of attending classes or trying to get to university during the day and holding down a job at night. Then there's trying to study, complete assignments and existing on 2-minute noodles for breakfast, lunch & dinner because you're so poor. Gross. Now you can hold down a full-time job and study full or part-time depending on your schedule. All you need is willpower and discipline, and you could have a degree in 2 years.
As you can see, if you choose to study online, you will be doing yourself a big favour. There are many courses available in every subject you can think of (and many you can't!) In most cases. You can choose to do a short course, a certificate, a diploma or a degree. There are even websites such as EdX and Udemy that offer free courses! But don't just take our word for it, here are 82 more people who will tell you how great online study is!
